Search for New Tourism Kelowna President and CEO Begins

We have “big shoes to fill” with Nancy’s departure as CEO of Tourism Kelowna. The Tourism Kelowna Board of Directors would like to take its time and ensure a diligent approach to recruitment for this critical role in our organization.  With that said, we have appointed Jennifer Horsnell as the interim CEO of Tourism Kelowna and have secured Shawnee Love from LOVE HR to support us with the recruitment and transition process for the President & CEO position.

26th Annual TOTA Golf Tournament – August 29, 2017

The Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) invites you to the 26th Annual TOTA Golf Tournament on August 29, 2017, at Sun Peaks Resort.

The annual tournament is open to players of all levels, and is a great chance to network with industry and suppliers. Registered golfers will be entered to win 2 Air Canada passes anywhere the airline flies in North America, including Hawaii.

The Golf Tournament supports the BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF), through direct donations and partial proceeds from the 50/50 draw.

Register for Hospitality Service Training through Okanagan College Continuing Studies

Hospitality and tourism is one of our cities largest employers, and it is continually growing and evolving. Okanagan College recognizes the need to continue to support hospitality learning opportunities, and has registration open for offerings through their Continuing Studies program.

Okanagan College is now accepting registrations for the Hospitality Service Training Certificate, a 124-hour course that prepares people for work in hospitality.  Participants will work through theory, skill development and practicum learning in the areas of housekeeping, front desk and customer service, and food and beverage to develop refined entry-level hospitality skills and applied techniques. Offered at both Kelowna and Penticton campuses starting in September and October respectively.

Please make your staff aware of this course as it offers an excellent opportunity for potential hospitality and tourism employees as well as professional growth for existing staff.

President & CEO Nancy Cameron Leaving Tourism Kelowna

June 22, 2017: Kelowna, BC – After over 17 years with Tourism Kelowna, President and CEO, Nancy Cameron has decided to leave her position to relocate with her family to Vancouver Island.

“We would like to extend our thanks and deepest appreciation for Nancy’s contributions to the development and operation of this highly effective organization that generates such benefits to our tourism businesses and community as a whole” stated Daniel Bibby, Chair of Tourism Kelowna. “Her commitment to this industry locally, provincially and nationally and the respect she has earned through such involvement, contributed greatly to her successful organization leadership of Tourism Kelowna.”

Understanding the extraordinary tourism potential of Kelowna and area, Cameron is responsible for evolving Tourism Kelowna into the current not-for-profit organization. One that is governed by an industry elected board of directors and is responsible for generating customers for the many area businesses that rely on tourism for their success. The organization has seen remarkable success under her leadership, including the implementation of sustainable, performance-based funding through the municipal and regional district tax, a sixty percent increase in the number of annual visitors to Kelowna and the Central Okanagan and most recently, the approval from City Council to relocate the Visitor Centre to a more pedestrian friendly, prominent location.

“I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to the Tourism Kelowna Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and tourism businesses for their support and enthusiasm for Tourism Kelowna and this vibrant and growing tourism economy” said Cameron. “My time with this organization has been filled with rewarding opportunities and I’ve had the good fortune to work with many very special people who are committed to this industry’s success.”

Tourism Kelowna’s Board of Director’s will begin a search for Cameron’s replacement in the weeks ahead.
