Calgary Meetings & Conference Update

Tourism Kelowna recently attended the One Conference in Calgary hosted by the local MPI and ILEA Chapters

Tourism Kelowna’s Business Development Consultant in Calgary, Nicolle Gomez de Sousa has been busy reminding Calgary based corporations that Kelowna is an affordable, easy and welcoming option for their business meetings.  In all her meetings, she has been told  that with energy prices stabilizing, businesses are now increasing production, hiring staff, and ultimately making more money which enables them to lift travel bans and meeting restrictions.

Earlier this month, the local Calgary chapters of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and the International Live Events Association (ILEA) joined forces to host 80 meeting industry professionals for the annual One Conference.  Nicolle attended the conference and had an opportunity network with a number of third party and association meeting planners during the course of the day.  The event also included a small marketplace to further promote our destination to the attendees and she is currently working on a familiarization trip for one of the planners who Nicolle met during the conference.

Fall FAMs Update

Meeting Encore FAM Tour

Our Sales team has been busy hosting clients on familiarization tours over the past month.

In September and October we have hosted 16 planners in Kelowna including six planners from Meeting Encore, a third party planning company out of Toronto.   We co-hosted our first ever ‘superFAM’ with the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort & Conference Centre which not only featured the Delta Grand but several other Kelowna venues and hotels.  Throughout the fall we also hosted planners from Bell Mobility, Brownlee LLP, BC Electrical Association and Tree of Life.

Hosting clients in Kelowna is an important strategy to secure new meeting and conference business.  Once clients see for themselves how easy it is to get here, the many venues and accommodation options we offer, and the excellent support offered by our service providers they are convinced we are the right choice for their event.    For more information on these and other FAM tours for the sales team please contact Jennifer Horsnell at or at 250-861-1515 ext. 206.

Tourism Kelowna announced our 2017 Meetings and Conventions Sales Program last week and it includes more opportunities to network with meeting planners.  After consulting with our stakeholders, we heard that you value more client interactions and that you wanted to maintain the Kelowna presence at tradeshows.   Consequently the program for next year includes two new events this fall in our key markets of Vancouver and Seattle along with attendance at the major Canadian meeting planner shows.

The Meetings and Conventions Program was designed to leverage our partner’s budgets and increase opportunities for our stakeholders to attend more sales initiatives, tradeshows and events. If meeting planners are part of your target customer group, learn more about the Meetings & Conferences Sales Program or contact Julia Garner for more information at or at 250-861-1515 ext. 217.

A delegation from Kelowna, led by Tourism Kelowna’s Pat Gappmayr, exhibited at the 2016 Incentive Works tradeshow this past week in Toronto. The Kelowna Team was comprised of representatives from the Coast Capri Hotel, The Cove Lakeside Resort, Four Points by Sheraton, Delta Grand Okanagan Resort & Conference Centre, Shop the Valley, and Mission Hill Family Estate. The team welcomed over 100 planners to our booth to sip Mission Hill Late Harvest Vidal from chocolate cups and were presented with the 10 reasons why they should have their next meeting or event in our city. During the conversations at our tradeshow booth, we received two requests for proposal and two hot leads to follow up on.
